The Health Care Foundation is pleased to announce that it has received a third offer of land for the future permanent home of the Gabriola Community Medical Clinic. Over the last six months, both the Women’s Institute and the Coats’ family property on North Road near the ferry have been offered as potential sites. We had preliminary discussions with Dr. Robert Rooks about the possibility of a donation of this nature early last spring, but he was out of the country for an extended period and the discussions were put on hold. Dr. Rooks has returned and finalized his offer for a 4.1 acre parcel of land at the top of Church Road. As part of the donation Dr. Rooks would prepare the site for construction and provide road access. The Church Road site has several advantages. It is close to the Ambulance and Fire Services, as well as the future Helicopter pad. Like the Coats’ property, this piece of property would need to be subdivided and rezoned.
The Boards of the Health Care Foundation and Society are interested in the public’s thoughts on this new opportunity. We encourage people to come by the Village Volunteer office and look at maps and discuss the proposal between July 26 and Aug 8th. Alternativelly, the site comparison sheet and comment cards are available below.
The Foundation thanks the Women’s Institute and the Coats family and Dr. Rooks for their support and generosity.
